Amidst heated debates over last-minute issues, there is confusion regarding what constitutes reform truly for the benefit of ordinary citizens and the vulnerable. In this context, Newstapa has released a series of reports returning to square one to re-examine the essence of prosecution reform. While the prosecution has proclaimed itself the "guardian of human rights," in reality, it has been negligent in fulfilling this fundamental role. Newstapa analyzed the status of criminal compensation payments made over the past five years and found that the number of payouts exceeded 16,000. A close investigation into actual compensation cases revealed instances where innocent ordinary citizens were indicted despite clear legal grounds. Conversely, while claiming to be a "spokesperson for the public interest," the prosecution mobilized legal techniques beyond its authority to shield those in power. Newstapa closely examined the prosecution's investigation into the so-called "Kim Kun-hee Dior Bag Incident" and found that the prosecutor in charge omitted details from the official record, despite the suspect's statement indicating an intention to solicit favors. At the time, the prosecution cleared Ms. Kim Kun-hee of charges of accepting bribes for mediation, but this decision was overturned just two years later, revealing the blatant facts of systematic manipulation and cover-up. What the 72-year history of the prosecution has imprinted on the memories of our citizens is that the law and power in our society are "strong before the weak and weak before the strong."
