Pilates Hour #212 The Thoracic, Neck and Shoulders

Injuries to the cervical spine and shoulder are all too common, but many can be prevented by applying the Principle of Mobility: ‘distribution of movement equals distribution of force.’ 9 great and the isolation of those groups are difficult. But the research I was pulling from are pretty well respected, and I could pull a lot more research on these systematic reviews. So when we see systematic reviews, it’s really looking at a lot of different peer-reviewed articles, it’s using the Pedro [scale] to see if they’re legitimate or not in the way that they’re designed and then in and of itself possess the idea that it’s a better quality research and outcomes. But all research is subject to interpretation, and so I would just caution you that we look at these things that are able to tell us: “is this a problem or not a problem?” Now, I would propose that if you’re interested in research, could you look at the relationship between the thoracic and cervical spine, could you look at the relationship between thoracic mobility and shoulder girdle mobility, especially in extreme overhead activities?” Dr. Anderson's new book, Principles of Movement, is now available!
