Lineage: Uncertain Recorder to Maxell UD C120 Cassette to Nakamichi 660 ZX playback to Tascam DA-3000 Recorder to UDMA 7 Compact Flash Media. This is for the main cassette, but not for the encore. I suspect that the encore is not from the master tape. Here is why: 1. The encore appears at the end of a Maxell UDXL C-90 Floyd cassette - tagged onto a different live concert. Did Mike bring a pre-recorded cassette into the concert just so he could record the encore at the end of the other show? 2. The tape speed is VERY different from the main master and the encore. Drastically so. If it had been recorded on the same machine on the same day, the speed should be identical or very close. 3. The record level is very different, with the encore being not as loud as the main tape. Again, they should be similar. 4. The encore is muffled and with more hiss. Sounds like one generation down, with dolby applied to the playback of the source tape. Also, there is print-through which is not Pink Floyd. Presumably from another tape. I suspect he brought another blank cassette into the gig, recorded the encore, and then later transferred it to the end of Wein 1973. If this were the case, he probably burned the encore tape for a different recording. I asked him if there is any chance that the encore is on another master tape from 1977. I asked him to have a look. It would make sense that he made a backup copy of Money in case he lost the cassette at the next concert. No reply yet. More bad news. When I received the cassette, there were 2 VERY ugly splices in the tape. So ugly that it stopped the tape playback due to adhesive between layers of tape. I extracted the tape and cleaned up the splices as best I could. Some of the splice tape is on the FACE of the tape, not the mylar backing. The splice comes in during Pigs and Welcome To The Machine. It's ugly but brief. The good news is I have a pitch control on my playback deck, and so the pitch throughout should be close to natural. I am sure others will have other opinions on this. Notes: Ello there, and welcome to one of my latest projects I have worked on for you all to enjoy: "Slaughterhouse-Seven or The Anaheim Abattoir", based on the infamous bootleg title from the 1st Anaheim night: "California Stockyard". R1 is the Primary source. It has been EQ'd with gain changes from -2.8dB to -0.6dB, and panned 80% left where matrixed. R2 is speed corrected to R1 with values between +23 and -19 cents. It has been EQ'd with gain changes from -2.7dB to -0.7db, and panned 80% left where matrixed. For the Money encore, R1 is panned 90% right and R2 45% left where matrixed. Thanks to WorldmanOne for the lovely cover to compliment this project! Ello_Guvner 2024-05-11
