Route 40 (West) | Dublin Bus | 2022

A video recorded along the western end of Dublin Bus route 40 from Liffey Valley Shopping Centre to the city centre in 2022. Phase 4 of Bus Connects on the 16th October 2022 saw the main routes to Ballyfermot reorganised into the G-Spine. These changes brought about the end of routes 79 and 79A, as well as the western end of route 40. New route G2 replaced the 40 between the city centre and Liffey Valley Shopping Centre. The new route G2 was for all intents and purposes the replacement of former route 78A. In 2011 the 78A was merged into the 40 to become a new cross-city route from Finglas to Liffey Valley. Prior to that, route 78A started running between the city centre and Cherry Orchard Hospital in 1957. In the mid-1980s it was extended to Rowlagh and then Balgaddy. In 1997 it reached Quarryvale and then extended to Liffey Valley in 1998 after the shopping centre opened. Then Network Direct in 2011 saw it merged with route 40 (which ran from Finglas to the city centre) to become new cross-city route 40 from Finglas / Charlestown to Liffey Valley. From the 16th October the 40 once again just connects the Finglas area with Dublin city centre. This video was recorded during 2022, with scenes in the city centre recorded on the last day. Liffey Valley to Ballyfermot was mostly recorded in October, with some done in July, and Inchicore in May. The video also features route 40C which is used when the bus is running short and terminating in the city centre.
