Dental set-up for complete dentures is an essential clinical and technical process in the fabrication of a complete denture. Artificial teeth (usually acrylic) are placed in a wax base on the patient's model to simulate their final shape before final processing. This set-up allows for the evaluation of aesthetics, phonetics, and function before converting the prosthesis into acrylic. --- 🔧 What is set-up for complete dentures? 1. Preliminary preparation Upper and lower models are obtained from functional impressions. They are mounted in an articulator with the patient's bite records. Occlusion rollers are made to determine the vertical dimension, centric relation, and occlusal plane. 2. Tooth selection Artificial teeth are selected in the appropriate shape, size, and color for the patient (age, gender, facial shape). 3. Tooth set-up (1x6) The upper central tooth (1.1) is mounted first as a central aesthetic reference. Next, the upper anterior teeth are fitted: 1, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 2, 2, 3 (total: 6 anterior teeth → from canine to canine). The posterior teeth are then fitted in both arches (premolars and molars), ensuring bilateral contact and balanced occlusion. 4. Wax Try-in The prosthesis with teeth is placed in the patient's mouth. The following are assessed: Facial aesthetics (smile, lips). Phonetics (pronunciation of sounds such as "f," "s," "m"). Bite and comfort. 5. Corrections Adjustments are made to the articulator if necessary. Once approved by the patient and professional, the articulator is processed in acrylic. --- 🎯 Set-up objectives: Achieve a functional and stable occlusion. Provide good aesthetics and phonetics. Distribute masticatory forces correctly. Imitate the natural shape and position of the teeth.
