This is the Rolex Explorer II, model number 216570 The outer white box is plain and features a large embossed Rolex logo on the lid. Inside is the usual green Rolex presentation case featuring a gold logo and a wave effect on top. This presentation box is designed to be on display and would look great on any shelf or bedside table. The 5 year warranty card, wallet and instruction book are stored neatly away in a compartment on the inside of the lid of the box. The white face of this watch is the first thing that stands out. It immediately looks crisp and clear to read. The Explorer II can either come with white or black face and both have clear blue luminescent markers for low light situations. Another key characteristic of this watch is the bright orange hand that tracks the 24-hour graduated and fixed bezel. This allows the wearer to easily keep track of the 24-hour clock at the same time as the normal hour, minute and second hands. The side of the watch features a screw down winding crown with a twin lock double waterproofness system which, helps to make this watch waterproof to 100 metres or 330 feet This watch features a 42mm Oyster case made from 904L steel, which makes the watch very resilient to bumps and daily wear and tear. It features the usual screw-down case back which, in contrast to many other manufacturers, Rolex often choose to leave very simple and bare… which seems to add an understated confidence and timelessness to their watch design. The Explorer 2 uses a perpetual, mechanical, self-winding calibre 3187 movement, Manufactured in-house by Rolex. The face of the watch is protected by Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and features a cyclops lens over the date window for easy viewing. The bracelet features flat three-piece links with a folding Oysterlock safety clasp and the ability to make small adjustments to the size of the bracelet for a perfect fit. 42mm it is a good size and should sit comfortably on most wrists…mine are slim at about 16cm and this watch fits me just fine. The white face makes the Explorer II easy to match with almost any outfit but works especially well when worn to accentuate a crisp white shirt. The Explorer II would make a good all-around watch for use in everyday situations including work and leisure. It is in a good price range and could work well as a starting point for those venturing into collecting or maybe as a gift for a special occasion such as a graduation or wedding.
