This is the 8th installment of the Koshinetsu Region Private Railway/Third Sector All Station Visit Series, focusing on the Shinano Railway Line. We'll explore the Karuizawa-Shinonoi section, which was the first line to be divided by the opening of the Nagano Shinkansen. Through visiting every station, we'll examine the remnants of the Shin'etsu Main Line era and the changes since it became the Shinano Railway. [Supplementary Information/Terminology] 〇Platforms〇Lines (〇 represents a number): Used to express the scale of station facilities. "Platforms" is used for the number of platforms, and "lines" is used for the number of tracks facing the platforms. Kilometer Post (粁程): A marker indicating the distance from the starting point. There are three types of kilometer posts: A, B, and C. Type A kilometer posts are placed every 1 km, Type B kilometer posts are placed at 0.5 km, 1.5 km, 2.5 km, ..., n.5 km (where n is a real number), and Type C kilometer posts are placed every 100 m (except for Type A and B). RC structure: Reinforced concrete construction. Siding: Track layout at railway stations, etc., for temporarily parking vehicles. Siding: A track used only by authorized personnel for handling passenger and freight cars, separate from the main line where passenger service takes place. Check: A "baggage ticket" issued when railway passengers check in their luggage. Strictly speaking, it refers to "tickets," so a freight line for ticket vouchers ≠ freight line for postal cargo, but before home delivery became widespread, in the era when postal cargo was the main type of transport, it was often affectionately called "ticket voucher" or "check voucher," so we use the term "ticket voucher freight line" with the hope of preserving the word for future generations.
