O Mito da Essência: Por que o Dasein não é seu núcleo interior ou alma? | Ep. 141
We have been taught to believe that somewhere within us, there is something that defines us: an essence, a core, an intimate truth that would explain who we are. But what if this interiority is less a given and more a construction? In this episode, based on the thought of Martin Heidegger, I propose a shift: moving away from the search for an "inner self" that grounds us and turning to the way we exist—always already in relation, always already thrown into a world that traverses us. What is at stake here is not the negation of our history, nor of the marks that constitute us. But the refusal to take them as destiny. Instead of a fixed core, what is revealed is an opening: a clearing in which existence unfolds without guarantees, without ultimate foundations, without an essence that precedes it. It is in this space—unstable, indeterminate—that we find ourselves implicated. And perhaps that is precisely why this perspective is so difficult to sustain: because it confronts us with the absence of a definitive point of support and with the responsibility of positioning ourselves in relation to what happens to us. Not as someone who chooses from nothing, but as someone who responds, from a condition they did not choose, to what opens up as a possibility. Throughout the video, I also question how we appropriate labels — especially in the psychological and psychiatric fields — when they cease to name experiences and begin to operate as definitions of being. The risk here is not in the diagnosis itself, but in the way it can become fixed as identity. Perhaps, then, the question is no longer: "what am I?", but "how have I been?". And what can become possible when this question is taken seriously.
