Discover the testimony of Rosette Lévy, deported from France to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Biography: Rosette Lévy, née Schwartzenberg, was deported at the age of 19 on Convoy 69, which left the Drancy internment camp on March 7, 1944, bound for Auschwitz-Birkenau. Her brother, André, was deported with her; he was 15 years old. Upon their arrival in Poland, Rosette and André were separated. He was immediately sent to his death. Rosette was placed in quarantine and then assigned to the work detail responsible for emptying the latrines. At Birkenau, she was moved between different blocks and work details several times. Rosette performed various tasks: carrying stones, breaking rocks, mending gloves, and making mats from old rags. Life in the camp was marked by roll calls, hunger, the violence of the kapos and German guards, selections, and executions. In November 1944, Rosette was loaded onto a train bound for Germany. She was dropped off in a village near Leipzig where she worked 12-hour days or nights in an armaments factory. On April 13, 1945, with the Russians approaching, Rosette and her comrades were transferred to the Theresienstadt camp. On May 8, 1945, the Germans abandoned the camp and the gates were opened. Rosette and a friend left and hitchhiked. A Russian army motorcycle with a sidecar took them to Prague. Rosette was repatriated to the Hôtel Lutetia in Paris three weeks after her liberation. She was reunited with her family who had survived the war. In 2018, Pierre Goetschel directed a film about the story of Rosette Levy and her fellow deportees, entitled "The Last of Them."
