The Cumbria Way Is MTB Perfection | Northern Fells Adventure

Today’s ride started in Bassenthwaite Village and turned into one of the biggest surprises I've had on a mountain bike in the Lake District. The plan was simple: a recce ride linking together Dash Falls, Skiddaw House, the Cumbria Way, Lingy Hut, Knott, Burn Tod, Trusmadoor, Great Cockup and Little Cockup to see whether it would make a worthwhile MTB loop. What followed was an incredible day of mountain biking through some of the most remote and beautiful terrain in the Northern Fells. After climbing past Dash Falls and reaching Skiddaw House, the route joins the Cumbria Way and immediately delivers some of the best cross-country mountain biking I've ridden in a long time. Fast, flowing, technical in places and surrounded by spectacular Lakeland scenery, this section alone makes the ride worth doing. Things then become more challenging as we head towards Knott and Burn Tod. The terrain gets rougher, the ground gets boggier and there are a few moments where the route starts to question whether it was a good idea at all. Thankfully the suffering doesn't last forever and eventually the trail drops towards Trusmadoor before climbing once again towards Great Cockup. The reward? One of the most enjoyable descents in the Northern Fells. The descent off Little Cockup is fast, flowing and seriously quick in places, with enough speed to keep you grinning all the way back down the mountain. It's the perfect ending to a ride that combines adventure, exploration, natural singletrack, remote mountain scenery and some genuinely excellent MTB trails. If you're looking for a quieter Lake District mountain bike route away from the crowds, this loop might just be one of Cumbria's hidden gems. 📍 Route Highlights: • Bassenthwaite Village • Dash Falls • Skiddaw House • Cumbria Way • Lingy Hut • Knott • Burn Tod • Trusmadoor • Great Cockup • Little Cockup Descent • Northern Fells 🛠️ Rockstop Bike Protection Running Rockstop on the bike Use code MTBTS10 Using Flymount for better camera angles Use code KARLW-10 🤝 Supported By • 4Play Cycles, expert mechanic advice keeping us on two wheels • Rockstop, keeping the bikes protected • Flymount, helping get better angles on the ride ☕ Support MTB Trail Shredders https://buymeacoffee.com/mtbtrailshre... 🖥️ Watch This Properly 4K, full screen, sound up. That’s kind of the point. You get the full ride, not just the highlights You’ll see the climbs, the long grinds, the fast descents, the sketchy lines, what works, what doesn’t, and the bits you figure out along the way A lot of the time it’s about linking together proper routes and finding the best way through an area rather than just riding one trail I’m always trying new things and different bits of tech, so expect plenty of interesting gear along the way When it comes to bikes and gear, I’ll show what I’m running, what I’m changing, and what actually makes a difference over time, not just first impressions There’s a mix of big mountain days, quicker local rides, testing ideas, and sometimes just seeing where a track goes No pretending everything’s perfect. Just riding, testing things, and getting out to better and better places each time If you’re into proper MTB rides, finding new routes, and pushing things a bit further each time, you’ll get it 💬 Get Involved Drop a comment if you’ve ridden this, got better lines, or know somewhere worth checking out 👍 Like if you enjoyed it 🔔 Subscribe for more rides, trails, gear, and whatever happens on the day #mtb #mountainbiking #lakedistrictmtb #mountaintrails #offpiste #enduro #emtb #ukmtb #trailriding #mtbadventure #singletrack #MTB #MountainBiking #CumbriaWay #LakeDistrictMTB #NorthernFells #GreatCockup #SkiddawHouse #CrossCountryMTB #Singletrack #MTBAdventure #ExploreMore #LakelandMTB #UKMTB #MountainBikeRide
