Production: Grad Studio (History Lab). © 2019 On August 23, 1939, German Foreign Minister Joachim Ribbentrop arrived in the capital of the Soviet Union. That same day, the Soviet-German Pact was signed in the Kremlin. The USSR and Germany agreed not to attack each other. In the West, the USSR was accused of allying with Nazism and sharing responsibility for the outbreak of World War II. But was this really the case? Why did Stalin reach an agreement with Hitler? What conditions were contained in the secret protocols to the treaty? And was it true that the main goal of the Soviet government was to occupy Eastern European countries? The documentary film series "World War II" is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. The project will explore little-known chapters in the history of World War II, the economies of the warring powers, the secrets of behind-the-scenes diplomacy, and the fates of ordinary soldiers, prisoners of war, and concentration camp inmates.
