森に囲まれた工房で新しい器づくり| つくる静かな森の生活
This week, I worked on making a new shape of vessel. When I make a new piece, I print many drawings, cut the paper, and imagine the final form. I repeat this process many times. When the shape is decided, I cut copper sheets using the paper template. After cutting, I polish the edges and anneal the copper with fire. Then, I finally start shaping it. I join the copper sheets using TIG welding. Because this piece will become enamelware, I cannot use silver solder or phosphorus copper. So I use only copper itself to join the parts. This method is called nametsuke. I weld very slowly and carefully, taking a lot of time. At the end, I wash off the oxide layer. Then, the base is finished— pure copper, with no other metals mixed in. The highlight of this week is the tail of a Daurian redstart. It looks like it is wearing a formal hakama outfit. I plan to upload a video next week showing how this katakuchi is finished with enamel. I would be happy if you look forward to it. ambient sound only [Our story] This is a quiet record of how my wife and I live and create in a Japanese forest, simply being ourselves. #SlowLiving #JapaneseCraftsmanship #ASMR #Artisan #CopperCraft #ForestLiving One quiet moment from the full video.
