[팩 보고드림] 일본차 혼다엔진이 기술의 상징이 된 이유 feat 토요타 닛산
All characters used in the video are drawn by hand. I handle the script, recording, editing, and animation myself. Script: A friend asked: "When you think of Toyota, you think of reliable cars with few breakdowns... Then what comes to mind when you think of Honda?" "Well... a company where engineers become CEOs?" "That's right... At Toyota, the Toyota family becomes the CEO, but at Honda, an engineer becomes the CEO. That shows just how much they value technology above all else." "But I heard Honda posted an annual deficit for the first time in almost 70 years?" (1) "That's right... So it's a pity." "For healthy competition to occur in the market and for consumers like us to buy better cars at lower prices, companies like Honda need to thrive..." So, I looked into it. I will present a report through Honda's history on how the company became a symbol of technology and why this seemingly eternal empire of technology is currently facing a crisis. Honda's founder, Soichiro Honda, worked at Art Shokai, a car repair shop in Tokyo, when he was 15 years old. He ran errands during the day and learned repairs at night. Honda worked incredibly hard. No... it seemed he simply enjoyed his work. Since he worked harder than anyone else, he couldn't help but catch the boss's eye. One day, when Honda turned 22... the boss made a proposal. "I may not trust others, but I can trust you! I am thinking of opening a branch for you; would you like to give it a try?" "Thank you. I will do my best." That was Honda's first business venture. Because he was so good at fixing cars, customers placed their unconditional trust in Honda. "This man's technical skills are truly amazing!" "They don't rip you off, and if you leave your car with them, they definitely fix it!" The business went well. Honda built his own racing cars and even entered competitions (2). At some point, he began to think: "I know cars better than anyone now. But how long am I going to just keep fixing other people's broken cars? I want to build them myself now. But building cars from scratch would be too much... Alright! Let's start with car parts!" The first thing he turned his attention to was piston rings, a component used in engines. Honda established Tokai Seiki Heavy Industries to manufacture piston rings and intended to supply them to Toyota. But... "This part did not pass Toyota's quality standards. I'm sorry, but we cannot supply it." Honda, who took greater pride in his technical skills than anyone else, was rejected. This was a massive shock. It was a moment when he painfully realized that the automotive market was not to be taken lightly. "Wow... How could something I made be rejected? I'm totally pissed off! They said Toyota's quality standards were high, and it really is... Fine!" "I will improve it and make sure to pass next time!" Honda began learning metallurgy and manufacturing technology. He attended school lectures and visited factories to learn production and quality control. And finally, he produced piston rings that met the standards recognized by Toyota. "Congratulations. This is exactly the quality we want. You can now supply us. Let's sign the contract!" Afterward, Tokai Seiki grew into a company employing over 2,000 people. During World War II, it was incorporated into Japan's military production system and mobilized to produce piston rings and aircraft-related parts. That became a boomerang. In 1944, disaster struck the thriving Honda. As U.S. B-29 bombers intensively bombed Hamamatsu in Shizuoka Prefecture, a city known for its military industry, Honda's Yamashita factory was destroyed by more than half. "Still, it wasn't completely destroyed." "Let's try to start over somehow with the remaining facilities!" But the times cut off even that. In January 1945, a powerful Mikawa earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 (on the Richter scale) struck. Honda's factory completely collapsed and turned to ashes due to this earthquake. Even the mentally strong Honda crumbled at this point. He sold his remaining stake in the company to Toyota for 450,000 yen. Honda became unemployed and spent his time drinking with that money. His despair was immense... People said: "That man used to be so successful, but he seems to have lost his entire fortune and gone mad!" #Honda #Toyota #Nissan #JapaneseCars #Soichiro
