Plant your own tree in your mind | Masako Wakamiya | TEDxTokyoSalon

Cultivate the seeds of curiosity in your heart and let them bear fruit in a magnificent tree. No matter your age, a new future opens up if you have interest. Even seniors, as long as their sense of excitement doesn't wither, will have a nourished heart and be able to challenge anything. So, why not try something new that makes your heart leap? Masako Wakamiya, also known as Marchan, began self-teaching herself computers at the age of 60 to enjoy online conversations after retirement. In 1999, she participated in the founding of "Mellow Club," a website for seniors. She is in charge of "Mellow Heritage," a database of valuable firsthand testimonies from people who lived through the war and postwar periods, and this project won the top prize at the UN World Summit on the Information Society Japan Competition. Her "Art with Excel" method, devised 10 years ago as a PC usage technique for seniors, was highly praised by Microsoft and is featured as an article in their official community. She is thoroughly enjoying herself while sharing the joy of digital creation with the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
