Nearly four decades ago, Vilmar Godinho traded city life for the tranquility of a cave in the Serra do Tabuleiro State Park in Santa Catarina. Known as the Valley of Utopia, the place attracts tourists for its landscapes. Vilmar, who has lived there since 1990, lives without electricity and derives his livelihood directly from the forest. Despite his peaceful choice, he faces legal challenges due to environmental restrictions. In 2017, he received a summons to leave the site, but managed to suspend the fine with legal support. In 2022, the Public Prosecutor's Office proposed that he could remain there, under certain conditions, but the Environmental Institute contested this.
