WCML CHAOS! Avanti Diverted, Freight including Class 90 at Canley Bridge Strike Disruption

On the evening of 11th June 2026 we headed to Canley to take advantage of the major disruption affecting the West Coast Main Line following a bridge strike between Nuneaton and Rugby. A lorry struck and seriously damaged a railway bridge near Nuneaton, resulting in widespread cancellations, delays and diversions across the network. Many services that normally use the West Coast Main Line were diverted via Coventry and Birmingham International, creating a fascinating evening of unexpected railway action. Network Rail and National Rail advised that services could be cancelled, delayed or diverted throughout the day due to the incident. Filmed between 19:45 and 21:20, this video features a varied selection of traffic including: • Avanti West Coast Pendolinos • Class 807 Evero units (including double formations) • Class 90 locomotive • Class 88 locomotive • Class 350 Desiros • Class 730 units • Class 66s • Class 60046 • Various delayed passenger and freight services Several trains were running significantly behind schedule, with some Avanti services up to 2 hours late and one freight service running approximately 3 hours 40 minutes late.
