(CH.1: The Cypria): "9: The Abandonment of Philoctetes" | Art process

The fleet anchors at Tenedos, where Achilles kills King Tenes, son of Apollo, unaware of his identity until too late, earning the god's lasting enmity. During a sacrifice to appease Apollo, a venomous serpent strikes Philoctetes, ally of Heracles and bearer of his sacred bow, and his wound festers into a foul, cursed omen that turns the army against him. Fearing divine miasma, Agamemnon has Odysseus abandon Philoctetes on Lemnos with his weapons, though his role in Troy's fate is far from finished.
