(CH.1: The Cypria): "1: The Apple of Discord" | Art process

The wedding of King Peleus and the sea nymph Thetis on Mount Pelion brings together gods, heroes, and mythical creatures in grand celebration, with Peleus receiving sacred gifts including immortal horses from Poseidon and a mighty spear from the centaur Chiron, both destined to serve his future son Achilles. The uninvited goddess of discord, Eris, seizes on the occasion to toss a golden apple inscribed "for the fairest" among Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena, sparking a bitter rivalry, while Zeus quietly harbors his dark plan to ignite a great war and destroy the age of heroes. Zeus appoints the Trojan prince Paris to judge which goddess deserves the apple, setting in motion a chain of events that will lead to the greatest war the ancient kingdoms of Hellas have ever known.
