From Small Things: Episode 86: Cutter Quilts

Welcome back! It has been very hot here again, so I haven't been working in my sewing room very much. However, I did pick up some Star Singles papers and 6 1/2" squares from my scrap stash to make a bunch of HSTs. I have no plan for how these will be used, but I know I will find a placed for them in a quilt one day. I also had a friend drop by this week to plan a quilt I will make for her son. We picked out fabrics in gold, gray, black, and cream. This will be an English Paper Pieced quilt, of hexagons; I have also started cutting out templates from cereal boxes. I'm still awaiting some choices from her son before really starting on this project. While she was here, she also brought a quilt from her collection that she doesn't want anymore. This is a very simple antique quilt made with all striped fabrics. She has it labelled "cutter quilt," which reminded me that I have been asked what a cutter quilt is; so, I'll talk a bit about that and show a couple of decorative items I have in my house made from cutter quilts. Despite the heat, I have continued hand quilting, though slower than usual. I am working on the vintage butterflies, and am trying to quilt at least one block a day. Slow progress is still progress! Finally, since we are talking about vintage and antique quilts, I will share a couple of quilt tops that Pam brought home from the Dry Goods Sale this year. They were half-price and passed over by a lot of people, so she just couldn't leave them there without a home. It remains to be seen which of us will actually finish them into quilts...
