Ultra Marathon Experience Kept Me DIALED Over 62 Miles In The Mountains Of Utah

In this Episode you'll join me as I race the Tushars 100k in Beaver, UT! My "A Goal" coming into this race was to get a top 10 finish. I wanted to race other people and push myself to see how it felt and where it got me. My "B Goal" was to beat my friend Sarah's time of 18:18:XX that she ran back in 2021 on a very different Tushars 100k course. For the first 50k I ran steady and well within my means just trying to stay in the mix and keep myself fed. I got to talk to many runners in the first 20 miles or so and was really enjoying the course. The first out n back was to a summit right at sunrise and it was a nice taste of what was to come. I had my water filter with me which made for quick and easy refills at the many water crossings throughout the day. In a few sections a would have easily ran out of water without it. As the day warmed up I would also use the water crossings to soak my upper body with cold water in an effort to stay cool in the high mountain sun. The 2nd out n back was the biggest. A massive descent and climb to another bracelet and then a massive descent and climb back to the major aid station where many runners decided to drop. At this point I was in the top 10 and I just had to hold on. Over the next 10 miles I could feel myself slowing down as the course had taken it's toll. Maybe it was those 45 miles on the Hardrock course just 2 weeks earlier. Maybe I was low on calories. Either way, Shelly Baldy took the last bullet I had loaded and shot it into the sky. Over the last 14 miles I would be past by a few runners and fell back to 15th overall. I finished in 18:23:36 just 5 minutes behind my B Goal, but with a giant smile and an overwhelming feeling over accomplishment. I used my experience and my training in full and had an amazing day out in the mountains with many amazing runners. Thank you to the volunteers and race organizers! Tushars 100k will go down as one of my favorite mountain ultras.
