Hiking 80km Across Utah's Tushar Mountains
In this cinematic hiking video, I hike an 80km loop in the Tushar Mountains of Utah. I camped and backpacked a total of 3 nights as I made my way through some extremely challenging terrain with many sections seeming to be fairly undocumented. The hike was beautiful, including a few highlights such as the steep climb up Delano Peak, the beautiful Bullion Pasture as well as Bullion Falls which is a pretty great waterfall tucked away in a canyon. We did the hike in September so we were able to avoid all snowfields, but it was pretty dry, and looking at the pictures, it may have been better to shoot for late July in order to have more green and wildflowers. 👍 Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed it! Kraig Adam's asked me what I knew about the Tushar Mountains and sent me a link talking about the Tushar Mountain Runs. I honestly had never heard of the Tushar mountains but I was able to gather some info regarding the trial from their website, but there really wasn't too much info regarding longer hikes in the area. I was heading out to Utah a few weeks after our initial text and decided it would be a good hike to try and do. On the mountain run website, there were a few longer runs, a 70km, and a 100km, I chose the 70km run as the 100km looked like it just had a couple offshoots that didn't really go anywhere, just something to add miles or in this case kilometers. I was able to download the GPS coordinates from their website, grabbed a hiking companion, and was off. We drove down from SLC in the morning started our hike just afternoon from the Eagle Point Ski Resort parking lot. After working our way up through the resort we were greeted with amazing views of what was to come over the next few days. We definitely felt the altitude the first day as most of the hike hovers above 10,000 feet. The next day we worked our way past mountain goats as we climbed the highest peak of the hike, Mount Delano. This day was super challenging. After a steep and nearly unmarked trail up Mount Delano in the morning, we had another really steep climb in the afternoon as we worked our way up to Bullion Pasture. Our final full day had our last major climb from Bullion Falls, a roughly 75-foot waterfall, up to the top of Mount Brigham. At nearly 5 miles and 5,000 feet of elevation change, it was exhausting. To add to that, about two-thirds of the way up the mountain it turns into a nearly invisible trail that we could only navigate by following our GPS. The wind was so bad that we had a very difficult time keeping our footing at the top and we were pretty happy to get down the other side as it was a ton of effort keeping our balance as the wind was constantly shifting. On our final morning, we enjoyed the best sunrise as we finished up a quick 5 miles back to our truck where we drove to Beaver to enjoy some tacos and of course my DQ Blizzard. My thoughts on the trail, gear, and food are at the end of the video. Please let me know in the comments below what were your favorite parts!
