Athletic Club Boise Head Coach Nate Miller, defender Jonathan Ricketts, and defender Jacob Crull met with the media following the club's 2-1 extra-time victory over Portland Hearts of Pine on Friday night at Athletic Club Boise Stadium. Miller called the match "a great football match" that had everything and praised his team's overall performance. He expressed how happy he was for Thomas Amang after the striker scored the game-winning goal in extra time and believed Amang should have finished with two goals on the night. He praised Blake Bodily's second-half performance, saying the midfielder was outstanding, and added that the team's attacking midfielders are able to play the way they do because of Amang's work. Miller also said if opponents are going to come to Boise and defend deep, the team wants to keep them pinned in their own penalty area and continue creating pressure. He credited the home crowd for making a significant impact throughout the match. Ricketts said the team felt it controlled the match from start to finish and consistently created problems for Portland. He credited Amang for battling in front of goal and doing the hard work to score the winner. Ricketts also smiled while discussing Bodily's goal celebration, noting it was one Bodily frequently used during his time with San Diego Loyal. Crull said the team places a strong emphasis on body language and mentality, especially after conceding a goal. He said the players remained composed after falling behind, responded the right way, and showed resilience by coming back to earn the victory. Athletic Club Boise now heads out on the road for its next two USL League One matches before returning home in August.
