Raw and Candid | EP 15: Surviving War, Surviving Martial Law

In celebration of July Ignatian Month and the closing of the landmark Ignatian Year, Jesuit Communications Foundation and Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM present: "Raw and Candid: Philippine Jesuit History as told by Jesuit Legends"; a series of never-before-seen interviews with legendary pillars of the Philippine Jesuit Province as they speak about the history of the Jesuits in the Philippines. Featured in our last video for this series is Rev. Fr. James Reuter, SJ. Fr. Reuter entered the Society of Jesus on 7 September 1934 and was ordained to the priesthood on 24 March 1946. He taught at the Ateneo de Manila University but ventured into media and social communications. He first put up the Family Theater Productions which produced catechetical shows, including radio and TV dramas. Later, he would also produce the hugely popular Family Rosary Crusade at ABS-CBN, Channel 2. The Bishops of the Philippines appointed him the Executive Secretary of the CBCP Commission on Social Communications as well as the head of their National Media Office and their official Press Secretary. Among the recognitions given to Reuter were the Papal Award for Outstanding Service in 1981, the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism in 1989, and the Honorary Filipino Citizenship in 2006 conferred by the Philippine Congress. Reuter passed away on December 31, 2012.
