I Went To CHERNOBYL… During The WAR
For years, Chernobyl was one of the most visited abandoned and forgotten places on Earth, a destination for urban exploration, filmmakers, historians, and travelers who wanted to step inside history instead of just reading about it. That changed in 2022. When Russia invaded Ukraine, Chernobyl was among the first areas occupied. The exclusion zone became militarized. Roads were mined. Access was shut down. Since then, very few people have been allowed inside, especially for filming or exploration. In this episode, I spent 48 hours inside Chernobyl during wartime, exploring Pripyat, the city built to support the nuclear reactor at the Chernobyl power plant. Schools frozen mid-lesson. Apartments still holding personal belongings. A stadium overtaken by forest. An amusement park that never officially opened. Radiation is still present here, but the silence carries a different kind of weight. It’s easy to frame Chernobyl as a single disaster tied to Reactor 4. But walking through Pripyat makes something clear: the explosion didn’t just damage a nuclear reactor. It erased an entire city. This is urban exploration in one of the most restricted places in the world... during war. And this is only part of the story. In the next episode, we enter the power plant itself, into the control rooms and beneath the structure that now contains Reactor 4.
