Cranes are at work in San Piero a Grado, on the banks of the Arno River on Viale D'Annunzio, assembling the first section of the steel walkway. This new pedestrian and cycle bridge will connect San Rossore Park in Cascine Nuove to San Piero a Grado, on the same site as the old Livorno aqueduct bridge, built in 1920 when the old Ponte dei Moccoli collapsed. The work, coordinated by Pisamo, is expected to cost €4 million overall, funded 50% by the Tuscany Region and 50% by the Municipality of Pisa. The project will last one year and six months, with completion scheduled for spring 2026. "The new cycle/pedestrian bridge is taking shape," said Pisa Mayor Michele Conti during a recent inspection of the construction site. "It will connect the Trammino cycle path with San Rossore Park, crossing the Arno at a strategic point. This is a technically complex project: the steel structure was first built on site and then, piece by piece, transported here to be launched and installed between the piers in the Arno and the new concrete abutments. The first section has already been installed in recent days, and by the end of next week, weather permitting, the second section will also be assembled, so that the entire structure will be visible from both sides, both from Viale D'Annunzio and from San Rossore Park." In the coming weeks, the connection to the Trammino cycle/pedestrian path will be completed, using a traffic light system on Viale D'Annunzio (just before the San Piero a Grado roundabout), finally making it possible to connect the cycle path connecting Pisa to the coast, including the San Rossore Park area.
