Diagnosing the health of my 5-Cylinder Turbo-Swapped Volvo 242 after a disastrous first drive.
Today, I'm digging in to learn the real reasons behind why my Volvo 242 T5 project's head gasket blew and what caused the mysterious startup noise. Before proceeding with tuning, it's time for some due diligence to ensure the ECU is calibrated correctly and the engine is healthy. I'll doublecheck and create TDC marks using two methods--a dial indicator and a piston stop-- then verify base ignition timing for MaxxECU. Afterward, I'll get an objective measure of the engine's health by performing a leakdown test and compression test.
