The Best 5 Cylinder Volvo ever built? | 2006 Volvo B5244T5 Turbo Engine Teardown

After discovering serious damage in my built T5-swapped Volvo 242, I was looking for a new direction. In this episode, we tear down and dive deep into what many consider the ultimate evolution of the Volvo whiteblock: the B5244T5. This 2.4L turbo 5-cylinder—found in select S60 T5s from 2005–2008—shares its DNA with the acclaimed S60R but features stronger 81mm bores due to thicker cylinder walls, making it a standout choice for tuning. It's a hidden gem of the Volvo world, and today, we're tearing it down to find out if this junkyard engine is the fresh start my Volvo 242 desperately needs. We’ll unbox the engine, inspect its health, and compare it to earlier whiteblock iterations.
