LOCAL PRUNES Prunus is a large genus comprising species bearing familiar fruits such as cherries, apricots, peaches, plums and almonds that are more commonly found in temperate regions. This trail is named afler a local Prunus species, Bat's Laurel (Prunus polystachya), a treé that bears large oval leaves with a peculiar pair of bean-like glands at the base of the leoves. Bat's Laurel produces fruits called drupes.
