THIS BITES BACK! - Turning a Decaying Oak Burl on the lathe

This oak burl was in a bad way. In this woodturning project I mount up this decaying oak burl on the lathe and carefully begin removing the rot, and chasing solid wood beneath the destruction. It’s messy, unpredictable and at times feels like the whole thing could explode apart. Can a bug-eaten, rotten oak burl be saved? Or is it truly rotten to the core?
