Changing Global Situation and Sikh Diaspora's Lobbing and Diplomacy Efforts: Exclusive Interview

The changing global situation and evolving regional dynamics in South Asia have once again brought Punjab and the Sikh community into growing geopolitical focus. Shifts in India-Pakistan security equations, rising strategic competition in the region, and concerns surrounding stability along South Asia’s borders have increased international attention toward developments connected to Punjab and the Sikhs. At the same time, issues relating to Sikh identity, political rights, transnational activism, and allegations of targeting of Sikhs abroad are increasingly being discussed at international forums, within foreign governments, and across global media, making Sikh affairs part of a broader global conversation. At a time like this, the institutional efforts of the Sikh diaspora to raise human rights concerns in Punjab and engage in advocacy with international institutions, nation-states, and United Nations bodies are of critical importance. To explore these diplomatic and advocacy initiatives, their effectiveness, and their impact, journalist Mandeep Singh speaks with Bhai Moninder Singh of Sikh Federation International. The discussion focuses on Sikh Federation International's recent participation in the sessions of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, where they engaged with UN mechanisms and international stakeholders on issues affecting Sikhs and Punjab. They also discuss the recently held international conference in Baku, organized by Sikh Federation International in collaboration with the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) of Azerbaijan.
