BBC Radio 4 LW - The Final Fifteen Minutes

BBC Radio 4 ceased broadcasting on 198 kHz on the Long Wave band at 00:00 GMT on Saturday 27th June 2026. This final fifteen minutes of BBC Radio 4 LW was received by a Sony ICF-M350L portable radio positioned 110 miles south-east of the Droitwich LW transmitter and recorded via the headphone socket with a Sound Devices MixPre-3 II. The transmitter ceased operation on the morning of Tuesday 30th June 2026 after three days of broadcasting the BBC Radio 4 LW close down information loop. BBC Radio 4 started broadcasting on LW on 23rd November 1978 initially using a frequency of 200 kHz, changing to 198 kHz on the 1st February 1988.
