Chattanooga Contra Dance Contra dance is a social folk dance form where couples form long lines facing each other and move through a series of choreographed steps, guided by a caller who instructs the dancers. It's often described as a more energetic and community-focused form of social dancing, with origins in English, Scottish, and French country dances. The Chattanooga Traditional Dance Society was formed to keep this dance tradition alive, and hold dance events to promote contra dancing in the Chattanooga region.
