As so many of us are feeling grieved, enraged, stunned, numb, terrified, exhausted of all of it – please hear these words from survivor, artist, and author of Know My Name Chanel Miller: “So many of the oppressive forces of the world are just waiting for us to give up.” When the world, and the court system, insisted that Chanel’s autonomy over her body was not worth the protection of the law – when they were convinced they could shame and exhaust her into disappearing, this was how she prevailed: “I NEVER WENT AWAY.” Maybe we do not need all the answers today. Maybe today, we need only reach deeply within ourselves, see and affirm our undeniable dignity, and reaffirm a resolute commitment: We will never give up, We will never go away.
