What was Denmark's role in the Northern Crusades? In this video, we're going to cover a lesser-known part of crusades history, the Danish conquest of Rügen. This part of the northern crusades' history is seldom given much attention in medieval history or the history of the baltic crusades. However, the Danish crusades against the wends is an important part of Danish history and also an essential part in Denmark becoming a medieval great power in northern Europe. The topics that will be covered in this crusades documentary are the historical context the danish crusades took place in, how the danish crusaders and their Wendish adversaries viewed warfare, as well as the Danish conquest of the pagan city of Arkona and the island of Rügen.
