It's located in the Maloalmatinski spur of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, southwest of the Big Talgar pass. The glacier was named by glaciologist Dmitriev in 1911 to honor Karl Bogdanovich, a Polish-Russian professor and geologist who studied the earthquake that happened in Verny (now Almaty) in 1910.
