Maniacal Princess (Tōhō Yumejikū ~ The Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream) — Jun'ya "ZUN" Ōta, 1997

COMMENT: Kotohime's theme She's a strange character. It's a strange song. Yes. What to say, what to say... yeah. Well, I guess the high-speed xylophone-like sound is the main attraction for this song. Anyway, the melody's pretty weird. Do you all think so too? I knew it. ···knew what? The melody's fine for me. Great, in fact. I like the chords here, and that's the main attraction for me instead. Can't even tell what the key for this one is exactly··· Also, this Kotohime character is probably the most different from all the other ones in this game. She looks like a young mother. She kinda even reminds me of Ash Ketchum's, even tho' they're not even that similar aside from the hair color. She's got the weirdest ending of all too··· not sure if I should even spoil it :) I also like how the song title barely matches with the song itself here. When hearing that title for the first time, you might think of some heavy-metal typa shit, almost like Strawberry Crisis!!, but no, you get this instead. I think the song titles for both these tracks have been swapped, rather··· This was a pleasing one to make, at least. The title was short enough for the whole thing to fit in the video title (only 3 characters free!) and I also didn't need to reduce the amplification of the bass and snare drums here. Feels so great when this happens··· The fact that the bass drum can still be too loud even when I half its channel amplification really makes me wonder how loud this kind of channel can go. I've never composed something for any FM chip, so I really don't know about its amplitude and stuff. It's louder than the PSGs I've worked with, that's for sure, except maybe for the SID. Hmm.
