Engine 51 Tractor Trailer Fire

Company 5 was assigned to Route 460 at Jubal Early Drive for a Tractor Trailer on fire. Chief 5 arrived to find one tractor trailer on the side of the roadway with heavy fire showing from the cab. Law enforcement and VDOT shut down both east and westbound lanes of 460 to allow fire crews access. Engine 51 arrived shortly after Chief 5 and pulled 2 hand lines for an aggressive fire attack. Engine 5A arrived and assisted with securing water supply while Rescue 5 assisted E51 crew. Fire was brought under control in under 20 minutes however crews also had to deal with a 175 gallon diesel fuel leak from the truck’s saddle tanks. Crews diverted the flow of diesel from storm drains and assisted clean up contractor WEL with clean up of the spill. There were no injuries and the roadway was reopened within a few hours.
