Moving to Jamaica 🇯🇲: My First Labour Day | Fixing Roads With The Local Community
Experiencing my very first Labour Day (Monday 25th May 2026) in rural Jamaica is something I will never forget! As an Englishman who recently relocated here with my family, being asked by our local neighbours and church community to join in and help fix our countryside road was a massive honor. 🇯🇲🇬🇧 In this video, I’m taking you boots-on-the-ground to experience a true Jamaican tradition. National Labour Day is all about community volunteerism and working as a team to take care of the neighbourhood. We pack up the tools, look at the intense pothole damage on our rural roads, mix the materials, and get straight to work alongside the local residents. Working under that beautiful but hot Jamaican sun doing physical labor definitely tested me, but seeing the close-knit bond of this community working toward one goal was incredible. Whether you are part of the Jamaican Diaspora in the UK, USA, or Canada missing home, a returning resident interested in daily village life, or just following our family relocation journey, this video highlights the beautiful, united spirit of the island. Stick around until the very end to see the full transformation of the road! Thank you to our incredible community for making us feel like a true part of the family. ⏰ Video Timestamps 0:00 Intro: My First Jamaican Labour Day Experience 0:35 Explaining Labour Day & Why I Want to Help Out 🛠️ 1:00 Making the Journey to the Work Site 1:41 Inspecting the Damaged Jamaican Countryside Roads & Potholes 🚗 2:34 Prepping the Materials & Tools for Road Repair 3:10 Enjoying the Stunning Rural Views & Catching a Chat ⛰️ 4:20 The Work Begins!
