Boutures de paroles, une pensée kanak pour le monde | Emmanuel Tjibaou | TEDxNouméa

The Kanak people of New Caledonia, like many Indigenous peoples around the world, are largely unknown to the West. However, they have developed numerous forms of resilience in their island environment to resolve conflicts and ensure the health and safety of their communities. This lack of awareness stems in part from the denial of Kanak identity promoted by colonial rhetoric. Today, however, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, these strategies for reconciliation, developed within Kanak society, are gradually finding increasing resonance. Thus, within the oral traditions of Indigenous peoples, new concepts are emerging that connect thought, speech, history, and nature, allowing for a rethinking of our relationship with the Other. #resilience #culture #identity #communication #humanity #social change Reference works: New Caledonia, Coral Archipelagos, edited by Claude Payrie, E. Kanak, the Breath of the Ancestors, Foulala Productions Originally from the Tiendanit tribe (Hienghène, New Caledonia), he is responsible, within the Heritage and Research Department of the Tjibaou Cultural Centre, for collecting Kanak intangible heritage throughout the country. Through his experience as a transmitter of knowledge, he contributes to the discussion surrounding a societal model that can take into account the identity of each individual as the foundation of the identity of all. In both his work and his personal life, he participates in redefining the concept of heritage in New Caledonia, drawing on both the preservation of the oral traditions of Indigenous peoples and their reinterpretations in contemporary artistic expressions. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
