Training a wisteria into a tree, pruning, and creating. How to do it? This is one of the most beautiful and well-known climbing plants. It's not complicated with Vegetosphere; they're all more beautiful than the next! In Latin, it's Wisteria, from the Fabaceae family (it produces pods like a bean). It grows up to 20 meters tall if supported! They can also grow around the house. They are mainly native to Asia, and one species is native to America. They are known primarily for their white, blue, and pink, fragrant, spring-like blooms. Two other aspects sometimes make them memorable: *Their vigor, an extraordinary growth force capable of deforming the metal bars of a fence. *A quirk, that of making them wait 3, 5, or 7 years to flower. It is a twining climber (wrapping itself around its support, literally strangling it), a true deciduous vine. Depending on the species, Wisteria floribunda climbs by winding itself around its support in a clockwise direction, while the Chinese Wisteria sinensis does the opposite! Cultivation and planting: Planting: We can't stress this enough, ideally in the fall! Cultivation is not complicated, to say the least! However, you should not become fixated if the flower is in short supply. We'll distinguish between wisteria grown from seeds or cuttings, which can take 5, 7, or even 10 years to flower, and grafted wisteria, which blooms faster! Post-flowering summer pruning will stimulate repeat flowering. And if that's not enough, here's a recipe that should work: The vegetosphere trick! At the end of July, cut a large, strong root with the blade of a spade. Place sand and crushed horn in this crack. A classic summer maintenance pruning can be performed; indeed, 2-meter shoots can create a veritable green mess. Its purpose in the garden? Theoretically, it's a climbing plant, so find a support for it and it will adapt. A less common use, except perhaps in Japan: grow it up a tree (a guaranteed spectacle, 20 meters high). Its exposure will be sunny to partially shaded. We offer you an alternative to the climbing version, whether you buy it or make it yourself. Wisteria as a tree: guaranteed romance! Choose a wisteria with at least one upright shoot, remove all other shoots. Stake and tie it up, and during cultivation, remove all suckers up to 1.80 to 2 meters. It should be trained like a fruit tree. Prune for 3 to 4 years to form a crown of branches. You can also buy a trained wisteria tree for €120 to €250. Is it possible to grow it on a potted patio or balcony? Yes, it is possible. This plant's needs are much greater than those of a rosebush. I'm talking about water and fertilizer. In a sunny location. It's beneficial to feed the soil with well-rotted compost or apply a complete fertilizer from time to time. Common species and varieties? • Wisteria floribunda is the Japanese wisteria. Honey-scented, small flowers. A possible height of 10 meters. It is more recent in production and is becoming more and more common. • Wisteria sinensis is the Chinese wisteria, a slightly repeat bloomer. It is the most common. It blooms early up to 10 meters in height. • Wisteria floribunda Macrobotrys: Large, 1-meter-tall flowers. • Wisteria × formosa: Taiwanese wisteria, still rare, the latest-flowering. • Wisteria frutescens: Rare, it is American and its clusters are as big as fists. • Wisteria venusta: Silky, velvety wisteria. More modest in growth. #climbingplants #wisteria #treewisteria #shrub #vegetosphere
