Then came Det Som Engang Var (1993), where the sound became more structured and epic, maintaining the darkness but with longer, more immersive compositions. With Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (1994), the project reached one of its most influential points: expansive, repetitive, and almost hypnotic songs that transformed aggression into an atmospheric and meditative experience. In Filosofem (1996), considered by many to be their most iconic work, minimalist black metal is blended with dark ambient passages, achieving a distant and profoundly introspective sound. Later, during his time in prison, the project changed radically with Dauði Baldrs (1997) and Hliðskjálf (1999), albums composed almost exclusively with synthesizers, abandoning guitars and embracing an ambient approach inspired by Norse mythology. After several years of silence, Burzum returned with Belus (2010), returning to black metal but with a clearer and more mature production. This was followed by Fallen (2011), more melodic and introspective in nature, and Umskiptar (2012), a denser and more repetitive concept album based on Old Norse texts. In its final stage, the project returned to ambient music with Sôl austan, Mâni vestan (2013), more ethereal and less somber, followed by The Ways of Yore (2014), which incorporates folk elements and a nostalgic feel, and finally Thulêan Mysteries (2020), an extensive instrumental work focused on ambient and dungeon synth with a mythological soundtrack feel.
