Introduction to Okinawan Kempo 2026 - Shiro Washi Ryu Seminar - Edinburgh, UK

Join us in Edinburgh for a look inside the Okinawan Shiro Washi Ryu Kempo seminar with Ludwik Orthwein, 6th Dan Renshi, and Grzegorz Goworek, 6th Dan Renshi. This training explores the practical applications embedded within classical kata, including Naihanchi, Pinan, Passai, Seisan, Kusanku and Niseishi. Rather than treating kata as a fixed performance, the introduction seminar looks at the original intent of the movements: practical life-protection methods containing strikes, locks, throws, vital point work and close-range control principles. Shiro Washi Ryu Kempo preserves the classical Okinawan Kempo passed down through Taika Seiyu Oyata and interpreted through the teaching line of Peter Polander Hanshi, 9th Dan. These seminars offer a rare opportunity to experience an older approach to Okinawan martial arts — one that predates many of the modern changes that shaped Karate-dō as it is commonly seen today. Attendee comments from the seminar: “On behalf of Colin, Richard and myself; thank you. For your warm welcome, patience and openness to help us. It is less common in the karate world than it should be. Many light bulb moments for me; looking forward to meeting again soon. In the meantime; lots to work on!” “It was great to meet all you guys and to be made so welcome. Both Ken and I enjoyed the seminar and found it really informative. We would be so grateful if you would let us know of any future courses as we would love to come along. Please pass our thanks to all at Shiro Washi Ryu Kempo.” The next seminar is planned for Autumn 2026 — watch this space for further details. Find out more / register interest: https://tinyurl.com/ShiroWashiRyuKempo
