92-93 - I’m Learning As I Go (Kitchen Transformation) – One Woman DIY Renovation – JWM

June 7 – 13 / June 14-20 This week was a big one. A little differently than usual, this video picks up after a missing week because of a hard drive failure that affected some footage and photos. It was frustrating, but the work continued — and there was still a lot of progress happening in the house. The kitchen transformation really started coming together this week. I painted the countertops using a tintable paint in the house color palette, and I am so happy with how they turned out. I also cleaned up and installed the refrigerator that I picked up, drilled the holes for the cabinet hardware, and started putting everything back together. Of course, there were some lessons along the way. My cabinet hardware template was cardboard, and a few of the holes ended up slightly off. Some of the pulls weren’t level, and a couple cabinet doors needed adjustment. But this was another reminder that this entire project is about learning as I go — not expecting every first attempt to be perfect. And honestly? The kitchen looks amazing. I finished installing the cabinet doors and drawers, added the pulls, touched up the walls, and started moving the dining room back toward a usable space. I reinstalled the kitchen and dining room lights, removed the floor coverings, and started transitioning the room back from construction zone to home. Outside, I continued working on the yard with Vayla’s help, mowing and working on the edging. The week also included a lot of the less glamorous parts of renovation: • clearing spaces • making decisions • getting rid of old items • trips to Home Depot (including three in one day) • figuring out what comes next I scrapped the old moldy refrigerator, finally got rid of the window glass, installed the new toilet (with a little troubleshooting still needed), and worked through decisions about the fireplace and future projects. By the end of the week, I felt a little stuck. The living room and foyer didn’t move forward the way I hoped, and there are a lot of decisions coming at once. So instead of forcing it, I’m shifting focus and moving upstairs next. Because this renovation has never been about getting everything perfect. It’s about figuring it out, one week at a time.
