Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9 (1975) - La plus folle des Classe S !

In my opinion, this is the most incredible Mercedes of all time: the 450 SEL 6.9! While aesthetically it doesn't stand out from a standard W116 S-Class—although that's already a wonderful base—under the hood, everything changes. Indeed, in the aftermath of the 1973 oil crisis, Mercedes had the brilliant idea of ​​introducing the largest engine ever fitted to a European sedan! A 6.9L V8, that's more than the V12s of subsequent generations...and it's the same engine from the equally iconic 600! With 286 hp, the efficiency is clearly not great, but who cares? The "six nine" is fast, by turns delightfully smooth or ferocious, at least to the ear. It includes technological refinements unheard of for the time, such as hydropneumatic suspension. And above all, it looks like it was carved from a block of marble and chrome... Add to that the fact that it was the car of choice for all our national stars, and you have a 70s icon.
