Alain Cadec : « J’étais en Chine pour voir leurs véhicules électriques, je suis revenu terrifié »

First-quarter vehicle sales figures are in: an increase of 185,000 registrations for the electric vehicle market. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East and its impact on fuel prices are clearly influencing drivers' choices regarding vehicles. For Alain Cadec, Republican senator for Côtes-d'Armor and guest on the morning show "Bonjour chez vous," this sharp rise in electric vehicle sales is cyclical, particularly due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. However, this boost in electric vehicles is not necessarily benefiting only the French automotive industry. Indeed, Asian competition, and in particular Chinese competition, has established itself in the electric and hybrid vehicle market, thanks in particular to lower production costs for manufacturers and support policies in the form of subsidies. The author of the report on "The Future of the French Automotive Industry" explains that he went to China last year to observe the development of the Chinese automotive industry: "I came back terrified because they are 15 years ahead of us in terms of technology and engineers for manufacturing very high-quality vehicles." He recalls: "Before, people used to say, 'Ah, those Chinese, it's poorly made, poorly finished.' Today, when you see Chinese vehicles, they are remarkably well-made." » 🔴 To stay up-to-date on all political and parliamentary news, subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/publicse... 👉 Our website: http://www.publicsenat.fr ▶️ Watch all our replays: https://www.publicsenat.fr/replay 📬 Subscribe to our newsletter: https://bit.ly/NewslettersPublicSenat 🚀 Follow us on social media: Facebook:   / publicsenat   X:   / publicsenat   Instagram:   / publicsenat   LinkedIn:   / 2996809   Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/publicsenat.fr Threads: https://www.threads.net/@publicsenat TikTok:   / publicsenat
