The Ultimate Guide to Germany's Missile Base
In this video Dave and Andy are exploring RAF Laarbruch where we enter the 26 Squadron RAF Regiment compound, this is where the Bofors guns and later the Rapier Missile System was maintained and stored ready for active deployment. Royal Air Force Laarbruch, more commonly known as RAF Laarbruch ICAO EDUL was a Royal Air Force station, a military airfield, located in Germany on its border with the Netherlands. The Station's motto was Eine feste Burg. The site now operates as the civilian Weeze Airport, in the Lower Rhine region of Germany. Exploring Dave was stationed here during his service in the Royal Air Force Regiment with 26 Squadron, he has detailed insider knowledge giving you the viewer a look into how this compuond used to be manned and operated. Filmed in 2020 on a Canon 90d with a DJI Ronin SC we are proud to be able to bring you our journey into; The Ultimate Guide to Germany's Forgotten Cold War Missile Compound. Designed in 1963 the Rapier is a surface-to-air missile developed for the British Military to replace the towed Bofors 40/L70 anti-aircraft gun. The system is unusual as it originally used a manual optical guidance system, sending guidance commands to the missile in flight over a radio link. RAF Laarbruch is now a commercial airport.
