RAF Laarbruch Fox Holes and Aircraft Hides
RAF Laarbruch in Germany was a Cold War Air Station for the British Royal Air Force. Opening in 1954 rebuilt from World War Two remains. The Royal Air Force operated many types of aircraft from this air station until its closure in 1999. The site is now Weeze airport and many areas are sealed off and guarded as a civilian airport. This series of videos were filmed some time ago, since filming the German Government have sealed these areas off and they are now used for military and police training Join ALW Research Team on our journey and experiences as we explore this huge cold war relic. During the Cold war, the military presence on both sides of the iron curtain intensified, preparations for enemy attack were taken with great precision. The suspected threat was real, and the outbreak of war was a reality both sides were ready for. In west Germany, near the border with the Netherlands, an air force base was built in the 1950’s to serve the Royal Air Force in Germany. Its name was Laarbruch, upgraded at huge expense in the 1980’s this became a major NATO base in the west and this Command Operations Centre was at the core of operational effectiveness.
