Mahabhoj - Mannu Bhandari || Mahabhoj by Mannu Bhandari || "The plot of the novel Mahabhoj is woven around a village called Saroha. Saroha village is located in the western part of Uttar Pradesh, where elections are to be held for a seat in the Legislative Assembly. The story begins with the incident of Bisesar alias Bisu's death. Dozens of people were brutally murdered in the incident of arson in the Harijan colony of Saroha village. Bisu had evidence of this massacre, which he wanted to hand over to the competent authorities by going to Delhi and get justice for the people of the colony. But due to political conspiracy and Zorawar's conspiracy (made in the spirit of revenge after concrete evidence was found against Zorawar), two people are sent to poison his (Bisu's) tea, due to which he dies. After Bisu's death, his companion Bindeshwari alias Binda keeps this resistance alive. Binda is also trapped in the cycle of politics and crime and put behind bars. Ultimately, a member of the bureaucratic class is killed. The character, Superintendent of Police Saxena, continues the resistance of the underprivileged. How caste equations have become an essential part of Indian local politics is the central concern of the novel. The oppression of the people of backward and underprivileged castes and their resistance by representative characters give impetus to the story. Bhandari has made a satirical comment on the opportunistic character of the ruling class, opposition, media and bureaucracy struggling with morality, inner conflict, contradiction in the novel. [2] In this story, after the death of a poor father, the deceased tries to have a feast, even though his financial condition is very bad. Due to the pressure of society, expectations of the pundits and fear of public shame, he takes a loan and has a feast. But in the end, the people who come to the feast criticize his food and make fun of his situation. *Main message:* Munshi Premchand shows through this story how the poor are oppressed in the name of culture of show-off and traditions in the society. This story forces us to think whether the soul of the dead person can be at peace through show-off or true devotion. From?
