Hi everyone! Today we’re going to compare two words,还and也. Although the two words have different meanings, they have similar usages in sentences and, especially, they can be used in identical sentences, so some learners get them confused. Today I’ll show you their differences, along with some examples, to help you to understand how each word can be used under certain circumstances. Firstly, let’s learn their meanings。 Firstly, let’s learn their meanings: the word 还often means “in addition”. The word 也often means “also”. Both of them are used a lot to connect sentences. 用来连句子 However, under different circumstances, they hint at different meanings. When还has a meaning of “in addition”, it’s normally used on the same subject. For example: 也means “also”. It is used to mean different things or different people that have something in common, so the subjects are normally different. We cannot use 还in this case.
