Bike & Hike im Allgäu: Durch das schöne Rappenalptal zum Südlichsten Punkt Deutschlands

The southernmost point in Germany, the Haldenwanger Eck with boundary stone 147, is relatively remote, but can be reached by a wonderful combination of a cycle tour through the Rappenalp valley and an easy hike. Tour link: https://out.ac/IVGahr We start by bike (e-bike) in the south of Oberstdorf into the Stillachtal valley. As the route here often follows hiking trails, you have to be considerate of pedestrians. After Birgsau and Alpe Eschbach at the end of the Stillachtal valley, the route climbs steeply up to the entrance of the higher Rappenalp valley. A tarmac road climbs steeply here at first, then only moderately steeply, past the Buchrainer Alpe, the Alpe Breitengehren and the Schwarze Hütte. Shortly after this, there is a small river to cross, and if you are in good enough shape or have an e-bike, you can ride steeply uphill again from here to the Speicherhütte (1,475 m). We park the bikes there. Cycle tour in each direction: Distance: 19.1 km Elevation gain: 707 Time: 1:20 hrs. Now we set off on foot on a beautiful little circular tour. Instead of hiking directly to the boundary stone, however, we ascend via the impressive Schrofenpass, which leads uphill through an exposed rock face and is occasionally secured with wire ropes. The trail descends steeply to the left, opposite which you have a great view of the Schafalpenköpfe (Mindelheim via ferrata). Once at the top, the trail leads through an idyllic meadow and rocky landscape towards Grenzstein. There are great views of the Biberkopf and the Großer Widderstein along the way. We take a short break at the boundary stone and then descend via the easier but equally idyllic path back to the Speicherhütte. You don't need much luck to see a few marmots here.
